Zack Snyder says the actor keeps campaigning for the role

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is making sure Zack Snyder knows he wants to play Snake Plissken in the upcoming Escape from New York reboot.
Snyder discussed Morgan’s interest while appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. The filmmaker said the actor has been repeatedly contacting him about the role.
“He’s been literally hitting me up,” Snyder said. “He’s the best. I love him. He’s great.”
Morgan also discussed the possibility during a previous appearance on the podcast. He acknowledged that the new version of Snake could be younger than him, but argued that an older, grizzled version of the character could work.
“Grizzled Snake wouldn’t be bad, by the way,” Morgan said. “It would be cool.”
Morgan added that Escape from New York is one of his favorite films and joked that he planned to keep pursuing Snyder until the director seriously considered him for the part.
Snyder was announced in June as the writer and director of a new version of John Carpenter’s 1981 sci-fi classic. The remake was originally announced in 2022, with Radio Silence attached to direct and Leigh Whannell to write the screenplay.
Radio Silence and Whannell later exited the project in 2024. Snyder is now developing the reboot, which will revisit the story of former Green Beret Snake Plissken.
The original film starred Kurt Russell as Plissken, who is given 24 hours to rescue the President of the United States after the President’s aircraft crashes in Manhattan.
Morgan is best known for playing Negan in The Walking Dead franchise. He has not been officially cast as Snake Plissken, and Escape from New York currently has no announced release date.
