Melissa McBride offered an emotional endorsement of Norman Reedus’ performance as the cast and producers discussed The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’s final season at New York Comic Con.
Joined by Reedus, showrunner David Zabel and executive producer Scott M. Gimple, McBride reflected on the places the story takes Daryl in the upcoming episodes. She singled out her longtime co-star while discussing how fans should prepare for the conclusion.
“The places that he goes is amazing. So proud of you,” McBride said. “Such a good actor.”
She added that Daryl’s journey in the next season is “truly incredible,” while praising the emotional material across the other characters and storylines.
Reedus similarly described the ending as heartfelt. He recalled tears among the production team and said the final stretch preserved the spirit that had made working on the series feel like a gift.
Earlier in the discussion, Reedus explained that Season 4 turns inward as Daryl and Carol consider what home means to them. Their relationships help them continue through setbacks, but the journey also brings personal realizations.
Zabel said the third and fourth seasons were conceived as one connected story. With their boat destroyed, Daryl and Carol must find another way forward while the relationships they formed in Spain continue developing.
The threats are also changing. Zabel confirmed that altered walkers are moving south from France and becoming more dangerous. He described sequences near the beginning and end of the season as particularly frightening.
New characters will play important roles in that journey. Zabel said Jimmy Smits portrays an American whose presence becomes crucial to Daryl and Carol’s ongoing search for home. Melina Matthews joins as Olivia, an aid worker and doctor who becomes part of the group.
Reedus also praised the international cast and crew, saying the production recaptured a sense of family he remembered from The Walking Dead’s early years.
Gimple described the final season as containing several distinct stories with major turns that eventually come together in an emotional conclusion. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon returns in February 2027.
