Summary

– A New York court approved subpoenas connected to the GTA VI leaks

– Take-Two is seeking account information from Microsoft and Discord

– Microsoft says it is helping protect Rockstar’s intellectual property

Take-Two Interactive has escalated its response to the recent Grand Theft Auto VI leaks by taking legal action against Microsoft and Discord.

A New York court approved subpoenas seeking information that could help identify people allegedly connected to the leaked gameplay material. The documents request account records associated with content reportedly distributed via Discord and GitHub.

Microsoft and Discord were given until September 4 to produce the requested information. Xbox chief technology officer Scott Van Vliet confirmed that Microsoft is working with Take-Two and Rockstar Games to protect their creative work and intellectual property.

The court action follows the release of several unauthorized clips carrying the CyberLeek watermark. The footage reportedly showed GTA VI protagonist Jason Duval driving, piloting an aircraft, and engaging in other activities in the game world.

Take-Two previously responded with copyright takedown requests. Seeking identifying information through subpoenas marks a significant escalation beyond simply removing videos and images from social platforms.

The legal action is confirmed through court documents, but the identity of the person or group responsible remains unconfirmed. Rockstar has not publicly verified every claim made by CyberLeek.

Rockstar’s GTA VI extended presentation remains scheduled for August 27, while the game is set to launch November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
