AEW star discusses retirement and life after the ring
Summary
– Adam Copeland said he is unsure about taking a wrestling executive role after retirement
– Copeland admitted his comeback helped him process his forced 2011 retirement
– He also revealed his ideal final wrestling moment would involve a chaotic heel exit
Adam Copeland does not currently see himself following the same post-retirement path as Triple H.
While speaking with The Sportsocracy, Copeland was asked whether he could picture himself stepping into a full-time executive or creative role within wrestling once his in-ring career finally ends.
Copeland admitted he feels hesitant about the idea because he is not sure he would enjoy being deeply involved in wrestling if he could no longer perform.
At the same time, Copeland acknowledged that retirement could change his emotional perspective once the reality fully sets in. He explained that returning to wrestling after his forced 2011 retirement helped him process feelings that never fully disappeared after his career was suddenly cut short years ago.
Copeland said having more control over how his current run eventually ends may make retirement easier this time around. Unlike his first retirement at age 37 because of neck injuries, he now expects to wrestle into his early fifties before finally stepping away.
He also admitted there is a physical reality every wrestler eventually faces. According to Copeland, the demands of professional wrestling become impossible to maintain forever.
The AEW star also recently discussed the exact type of ending he hopes to have before retiring for good. Rather than a sentimental farewell, Copeland revealed he wants one final memorable heel run that ends with him being dragged out of the building, kicking and screaming.
Copeland made it clear he still loves wrestling, but for now, he appears more focused on enjoying the remaining years of his in-ring career than on preparing for a future executive role behind the scenes.
