Marvel’s Wolverine Reveals New Story Details

Insomniac introduced Team X, major villains, and new gameplay details during its Comic-Con Hall H panel

Summary

– Marvel’s Wolverine will feature Team X instead of an established X-Men group

– Logan will work alongside Sabretooth, Mystique, and Sunfire under Nathaniel Essex

– The PS5 exclusive will launch on September 15, 2026, with a physical disc edition

Insomniac Games revealed major new details about Marvel’s Wolverine during a Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026.

The presentation included a new story trailer, character information, gameplay discussion, and a prequel comic connected to the upcoming PlayStation 5 game.

The comic is not required to understand the game, but it provides additional background on Logan and Team X.

Marvel’s Wolverine will not begin with a traditional X-Men team.

Instead, Logan is connected to Team X alongside Sabretooth, Mystique, and Sunfire.

The story takes place after Logan has been away from the group for approximately 3 years.

His return creates tension as he attempts to rebuild his relationship with the other members.

Team X is led by Nathaniel Essex, the Marvel character better known as Mister Sinister.

The prequel comic shows Essex communicating with the team from a distance and occupying a leadership position similar to the role Professor X traditionally holds with the X-Men.

Logan will also meet Jean Grey, who is operating independently rather than as part of an established X-Men team.

Jean is attempting to understand her identity as a mutant while protecting other mutants she encounters.

The panel suggested that Logan and Jean may share romantic tension, though no official relationship has been confirmed.

Bolivar Trask will serve as one of the game’s primary antagonists.

This version of Trask is a wealthy businessman using his resources to target and eliminate mutants.

He created the Sentinels and controls the Reavers, cybernetic soldiers shown battling Wolverine in previously released footage.

Lady Deathstrike will also appear as the leader of the Hand.

The game reworks several familiar Marvel relationships by connecting Deathstrike to the ninja organization instead of placing her directly with the Reavers.

Insomniac discussed the importance of making Wolverine feel physically different from Spider-Man.

Developers focused on communicating the weight of Logan’s adamantium skeleton through his movement and combat.

His fighting style will emphasize powerful attacks, brutal claw strikes, and berserker rage.

Marvel’s Wolverine will also receive a crossover costume inspired by Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls.

The fighting game will feature its own Wolverine design, while Insomniac’s title will include a Tokon-inspired outfit that matches that game’s visual style.

A prequel comic written by Walt Williams will provide additional context about Team X and the events leading up to the game.

Williams is best known for his work on Spec Ops: The Line.

The panel also confirmed that Marvel’s Wolverine will receive a physical disc release on PlayStation 5.

Marvel’s Wolverine is scheduled to launch exclusively for PS5 on September 15, 2026.
