Lauren Cohan has offered a hopeful update about the future of The Walking Dead: Dead City.
AMC has not officially renewed the Maggie and Negan spinoff for a fourth season, but Cohan revealed that the creative team is already considering where the story could go next.
“We have a lot of ideas that are outside the box for another season,” Cohan told People.
Cohan said those ideas would need to surprise her and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who have spent so many years playing Maggie and Negan.
The actress joined The Walking Dead during its second season and has portrayed Maggie for 15 years. Morgan joined the series as Negan during its sixth-season finale.
Although the characters have a long and complicated history, Dead City season 3 has taken their relationship in a different direction. Maggie and Negan have set their differences aside as they attempt to build a thriving community in Manhattan.
Cohan believes the characters can continue evolving as long as the series maintains strong writing and remains willing to explore new sides of them.
“As long as you can maintain good writing and the ability for people to change, I think the possibilities really are endless,” she said.
Her comments do not confirm that Dead City season 4 will happen. However, they show that the creative team has ideas ready if AMC decides to continue the series.
The update comes as The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon prepares to conclude with its fourth and final season in 2027.
For now, Dead City season 3 continues to air Sundays on AMC and AMC+, while fans wait to learn whether Maggie and Negan will return for another season.
