Triple H passed on Rux over RuPaul’s concern
Summary
– Finn Bálor revealed that Rux was once considered as a possible WWE name
– Triple H rejected the idea because he thought fans would connect it to RuPaul
– Bálor also said Liv was one of the names discussed before his WWE debut
Finn Bálor almost had a very different WWE name.
Bálor discussed the early days of his WWE career during an appearance on Stephanie McMahon’s What’s Your Story? podcast. He explained that several possible names were considered when he joined the company more than a decade ago.
Bálor said his current ring name is inspired by Gaelic mythology. Finn is tied to Finn McCool, while Bálor comes from the one-eyed demon king of Irish folklore.
He also revealed that Liv was one of the names Paul Levesque considered for him. Bálor said Levesque was especially leaning toward that name at one point.
Another name on the list was Rux, but Levesque quickly shut it down. Bálor said Levesque believed people would hear the name and think of RuPaul.
Stephanie joked about the comparison during the podcast, while Bálor admitted he did not know much about RuPaul at the time. The story offered a funny look at how much thought can go into a WWE name before a performer ever appears on television.
Bálor ultimately kept a name rooted in mythology, and it became a major part of his WWE identity. The rejected options now stand as unusual what-if choices from the early stage of his WWE run.
