Dead City Episode 6 brings Maggie’s sister back

Emily Kinney is officially returning to The Walking Dead universe as Beth Greene, with the first footage of her Dead City Season 3 appearance now revealed.
AMC previewed Kinney’s return following the August 23 episode of Dead City. The teaser for Episode 6, airing August 30, shows Beth meeting her sister Maggie in Central Park, a guitar slung over her back and a coffee cup in hand.
Kinney’s involvement had previously been confirmed during San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where more details about the unusual episode were revealed. Rather than bringing Beth back from the dead, Dead City will feature her in an alternate-history story exploring what life might have looked like if the Wildfire outbreak had never happened.
Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan also appear in the episode, allowing the series to present familiar characters under completely different circumstances. Beth’s appearance is especially notable because Kinney has not played the character in a new Walking Dead episode for approximately 12 years.
Beth was killed during The Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 8, “Coda,” after the tense hostage exchange at Grady Memorial Hospital. She stabbed Dawn Lerner during the confrontation, prompting Dawn to shoot her before Daryl Dixon immediately killed Dawn.
Her death became one of the franchise’s most memorable and emotional moments, particularly because of the effect it had on Maggie and the rest of Beth’s group. That history lends her reunion with Maggie additional weight, even though the upcoming episode takes place in an alternate version of events.
The teaser only provides a brief glimpse of Beth, leaving the extent of Kinney’s role unclear. What has been confirmed is that fans will finally see Beth and Maggie together again as Dead City explores a world untouched by the apocalypse.
