Penta will face Rey Fenix for a shot at Roman Reigns
Summary
– Penta defeated La Parka in the tournament semifinals
– A Mexican Destroyer off the ropes secured the victory
– Penta will face Rey Fenix next week for a World Heavyweight Championship opportunity
Penta advanced to the final of WWE’s World Heavyweight Championship No. 1 Contender’s Tournament after defeating La Parka on the August 24 episode of Monday Night Raw.
The two luchadors delivered a physical semifinal match, with Penta gaining momentum through a hard dropkick and sustained offense. La Parka answered with several counters and repeatedly threatened to pull off the upset.
La Parka came close after planting Penta and later connecting with a Spanish Fly from the top rope. Penta survived both attempts and continued fighting for his place in the tournament final.
Penta also escaped La Parka’s attempt at the Bone Breaker before shifting the match back in his favor. He connected with the Sacrifice and then delivered a Mexican Destroyer off the ropes to score the three-count.
The victory sends Penta into next week’s final against his brother Rey Fenix, who advanced from the other side of the tournament. The matchup creates an all-Lucha Brothers final with a major championship opportunity at stake.
The winner of Penta vs. Fenix will challenge Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship on the September 14 episode of Raw from Arena CDMX in Mexico City.
La Parka came close to reaching the final and delivered one of his strongest WWE performances to date. Still, Penta ultimately survived the challenge and moved one step closer to a world title opportunity.
