Elisha Cuthbert is looking back on 24 with pride, but she is also honest about how tough it was to make.
Cuthbert played Kim Bauer, the daughter of Jack and Teri Bauer, on the Fox thriller. The series premiered in November 2001 and became known for its real-time format, in which each episode represented one hour of a single day.
While speaking with PEOPLE to promote her new show Every Year After, Cuthbert reflected on the upcoming 25th anniversary of 24. She said the series’s success was thrilling, but the filming process was also intense.
“It’s hard to imagine, really, the scope of it. It was a whirlwind, too. I mean, the success of it all was overwhelming and thrilling and exciting.”
Cuthbert said the cast and crew worked long hours, especially because the show featured action scenes, night shoots, and a format that demanded a high level of detail.
“I have great memories of that time, but also, it was really intense too. We were working so much that the one-hour format… especially with all the action and all the intense night shoots, I mean, it was not an easy show to film.”
Even with those challenges, Cuthbert said the team did the best they could. She praised the production for running smoothly, while still admitting that the schedule took a serious toll.
“It was a well-oiled machine, but it still was a grueling schedule. I don’t know if I’d have the energy to partake in that again.”
Cuthbert still views 24 as an important part of her career. She called the show amazing and groundbreaking, and said it was special to be involved in something that made such a strong impact on television.
She also said she keeps in touch with former cast members on occasion. Cuthbert noted that many actors passed through 24 during its run, creating a shared connection even among performers who did not work closely together.
For now, Cuthbert sounds grateful for her time as Kim Bauer, even though she is not sure she could return to the same demanding pace.
