Swollen left knee forces AAA champion into MRI waiting game
Summary
– El Hijo del Vikingo was removed from his planned NXT title defense on June 30
– His left knee is reportedly badly swollen, and he is wearing a brace
– MRI results will determine how serious the injury scare really is
El Hijo del Vikingo’s missed NXT title defense now has a real injury update.
According to False Finish, Vikingo is dealing with a badly swollen left knee. He is currently wearing a brace while waiting for an MRI to reveal the full severity of the injury.
That explains why WWE pulled his AAA Latin American Championship defense from the June 30 episode of NXT on The CW. Vikingo had been advertised to put the title on the line against E.K. Prosper.
WWE changed plans before the match could happen. Instead, the show ran a backstage angle showing Keanu Carver standing over Vikingo.
That angle gave the broadcast a storyline reason for the title match being removed. The real reason was that Vikingo was injured while preparing for the bout, and WWE decided not to risk worsening the injury.
Robert Stone was shown calling for medical help after the backstage scene. WWE then shifted the card by booking Carver against Prosper instead.
Prosper still appeared on the show and defeated Carver. The AAA Latin American Championship match, however, was dropped completely from the episode.
Now the focus is on Vikingo’s medical results. A swollen knee and a brace are enough to create concern, but the MRI will decide whether this is a short-term issue or something more serious.
Vikingo’s style depends heavily on speed, jumping, and sharp movement, which makes any knee problem especially important. WWE removing him from the match may have been the safest call.
Until the MRI results are known, his status remains uncertain. Fans will now have to wait and see how long Vikingo may be out of action.
