That return has reportedly been planned for several weeks. A source at the Allstate Arena also said there has been no change to Punk’s promotional status for the event.
That lines up with WWE continuing to advertise Punk heavily for the Chicago show. If the plan holds, RAW will mark his first appearance on WWE television since the April 20 episode.
The update comes after Punk created speculation during Cage Fury Fighting Championships 156 in Chicago. When asked about another CFFC event on a Friday, Punk seemed unsure whether he could attend.

Because Friday is SmackDown night, fans quickly wondered if Punk was teasing an appearance on that brand instead. He also stayed playful when asked if he had any major news.

Despite that tease, the latest word points back to RAW. Chicago has always been the stronger landing spot if WWE wants Punk’s return to feel like a major television moment.
The July 6 episode already has a big advertised main event. Sami Zayn is set to defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes.
Adding Punk’s return to that same show would make RAW feel even more loaded. If he walks out in front of the Allstate Arena crowd, the reaction should be massive.
