Steven Yeun is heading back into supernatural territory with a new leading role at Netflix.

Netflix has confirmed that Yeun will star in Pagans as Gus, a father who becomes the sole caretaker of his two children after his wife’s death. The series will mix horror and dark humor while exploring the more unsettling sides of parenting and family life.

The story centers heavily on Gus and his daughter Alice. While his son is described as relatively typical, Alice is anything but, with their already difficult relationship developing into something far more sinister as the series unfolds.

Pagans marks another major project for Yeun after a career that has continued to expand well beyond The Walking Dead. He became widely known for playing Glenn Rhee on the AMC series from 2010 to 2016 before moving into acclaimed film and television roles.

Yeun later earned an Academy Award nomination for Minari and received major praise for his performance in Netflix’s Beef. He has also appeared in Nope, provided voice work for Invincible, and continued working across several different genres.

The new series comes from creator Joshua Zetumer, who previously worked on Say Nothing. Yeun will executive produce alongside Zetumer and Drew Goddard, with Sarah Esberg, Jonathan van Tulleken, Erica Kay, and Christina Oh also serving as executive producers.

Goddard brings significant genre experience to the project, having written The Martian and directed The Cabin in the Woods. His involvement adds another notable name behind the scenes as Pagans continues moving through development.

The project also continues Yeun’s relationship with Netflix. Along with Beef, where he remains an executive producer, Yeun also appeared in The Rip.

Pagans have already attracted attention during development after reportedly sparking a bidding war. With Yeun leading the cast and the series promising a mix of horror, humor, and family drama, the project gives the former Walking Dead star another high-profile television role.
