Sony has added new animated backgrounds to the PS5 Welcome Hub as part of its May 2026 feature update.
Players can find the new options by opening the Welcome Hub, selecting Backgrounds, and then selecting From PlayStation. Newly added backgrounds are marked with a “new” tag, making them easier to spot.
One of the new animated themes may not be ideal for everyone. The preview appears simple at first, but the full animation can be intense enough to bother players who are sensitive to motion.
The update also includes the previously promised Uncharted theme tied to the 10th anniversary of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. That background uses artwork from Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection and is also animated.
PS5 users can also enable Showcase Mode in the Welcome Hub settings. This lets the console show the chosen background more clearly by hiding widgets while the system is idle.
The new themes give players more ways to personalize the PS5 home experience, though anyone prone to motion sickness may want to preview the animated options carefully before leaving them on.
