Older system software is reportedly blocking sign-in until players update.
Summary
– PS5 users report needing firmware 14.10 to sign in to PSN
– Sony’s official notes list security fixes and stability improvements
– Claims linking the requirement to GTA VI remain unconfirmed
PS5 owners running older system software are reportedly being asked to install firmware 14.10 before they can sign in to PlayStation Network.
Reports describe consoles on version 14.00 being unable to access PSN without updating. That can interrupt online multiplayer and other network features for players who choose to remain on the older software.
Sony’s support page lists version 26.06-14.10.00 as the latest PS5 system software. Its release notes confirm security fixes alongside improvements to system performance and stability, but do not identify the vulnerabilities addressed.
The reported sign-in restriction should not be confused with confirmation of a permanent account ban. It concerns the software version required for network access.
To check for an update, open Settings, select System, then System Software and System Software Update and Settings. Choose Update System Software if a newer version is available.
The reports have drawn attention among owners of modified consoles, since updating may affect the unofficial software they use. Sony warns that modified systems may not operate properly or install official updates successfully.
Suggestions that the update was introduced specifically to protect GTA VI, or that the game will require this exact firmware version, have not been confirmed by Sony or Rockstar. Sony’s published notes do not mention the game.
