GTA VI could receive higher resolution and smoother performance through PS5 Pro hardware and PSSR technology

GTA VI Could Target 4K on PS5 Pro

Leaked Enhanced guidelines fuel speculation over Rockstar’s performance plans

Summary

– Leaked PS5 Pro Enhanced guidelines have renewed speculation about GTA VI performance

– Enhanced status does not require games to run at both native 4K and 60FPS

– CPU limitations could make a 40FPS mode more realistic than a stable 60FPS option

GTA VI could receive significant visual improvements on PS5 Pro, but leaked requirements for Sony’s Enhanced label do not guarantee the game will run at 4K and 60FPS.

According to guidelines reportedly leaked by Moore’s Law Is Dead, developers have several ways to qualify their games for PS5 Pro Enhanced status. Improvements can include a higher target resolution, a higher target frame rate, or upgraded ray-tracing effects compared with the standard PS5 version.

That distinction is important because receiving the PS5 Pro Enhanced label would not automatically mean that GTA VI must deliver 2160p at a stable 60 FPS. Rockstar could instead prioritize higher image quality, additional graphical effects, or another performance improvement that leverages the more powerful console.

Rockstar is reportedly expected to utilize the PS5 Pro’s stronger GPU and Sony’s PSSR upscaling technology to improve GTA VI’s image quality. Those capabilities could help the game deliver a higher-resolution presentation without requiring every frame to be rendered internally at native 4 K resolution.

Reaching a consistent 60FPS could present a different challenge. The PS5 Pro received a substantial GPU upgrade over the original PS5, but its CPU remains based on the same Zen 2 architecture, which may limit frame-rate improvements in demanding open-world games.

Digital Foundry has previously raised that concern when discussing GTA VI, arguing that a faster GPU alone cannot necessarily overcome CPU limitations if the base console version targets 30FPS. Maintaining 60FPS would require the CPU to process the game’s simulation and other workloads roughly twice as quickly.

A 40FPS option could therefore emerge as a more realistic middle ground if Rockstar chooses to provide multiple modes. Such an option could offer smoother gameplay than 30 FPS while preserving more of the visual detail expected in GTA VI, although Rockstar has not announced any PS5 Pro-specific performance modes.

GTA VI is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in November 2026. Until Rockstar provides official technical specifications, claims of a confirmed 4K 60FPS PS5 Pro mode remain speculation.
