Andy Williams, best known to wrestling fans as The Butcher, has died at the age of 48 after suffering a medical emergency during an independent wrestling event in Pennsylvania.
TMZ reported that the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Williams’ death following the incident at Mr. Small’s Theater in Millvale. Williams had been teaming with his longtime partner, The Blade, against TME during an Enjoy Wrestling event when the emergency occurred.
Enjoy Wrestling previously announced that Williams collapsed at the end of the match. Doctors working at the event immediately began treating him and administered CPR until an ambulance arrived to transport him to the hospital.
The promoter canceled the remainder of the show and sent those in attendance home following the emergency. Enjoy Wrestling also thanked everyone who assisted Williams and said members of the promotion went to the hospital while awaiting further information.
Williams became widely known in professional wrestling through his run with AEW alongside The Blade. The pair debuted with the promotion in 2019 and became regular members of its tag team division before later returning to the independent wrestling scene.
Outside of wrestling, Williams was also an accomplished musician. He played rhythm guitar for the influential metalcore band Every Time I Die before the group disbanded in 2022.
Williams’ combination of wrestling and music made him a recognizable figure across both worlds, with The Butcher becoming one of the most distinctive characters of his AEW run.
