MVP speaks about WWE’s old marijuana policy and the large fines he paid during his first run

MVP Reveals Huge WWE Weed Fine Total

Former WWE star says old marijuana penalties cost him enough money to buy a car.

Summary

– MVP revealed he paid thousands of dollars in marijuana fines during his first WWE run

– WWE’s old policy reportedly started with $1,000 fines before increasing to $2,500

– MVP said he eventually stopped after repeated fines became too expensive

MVP shared a surprising story about how much WWE’s old marijuana policy cost him during his first run with the company.

While speaking with RVD, MVP said WWE originally focused its wellness program on pills and harder drugs before marijuana was added to the list. He said talent was told a positive marijuana test would not lead to a suspension, but it would come with a $1,000 fine.

MVP said he was earning a lot of money at the time and tried to turn the rule into a running joke. He even asked if he could pay $12,000 upfront to cover a full year of possible fines.

That idea did not last long. MVP said WWE later changed its approach after he kept testing positive, and he was told the company already had several positive marijuana tests from him.

The fine eventually increased from $1,000 to $2,500. MVP said WWE announced the higher penalty at a pay-per-view and then tested talent the next day on television.

He also recalled comparing fine totals with Randy Orton and Evan Bourne, joking about who had paid the most. MVP estimated he had already reached around $11,000 before the higher fines hit him a couple more times.

At that point, MVP said he decided the cost was no longer worth it.

The story shows how WWE’s approach to marijuana once differed from what has been described more recently. Mia Yim said in 2025 that WWE had removed marijuana from its banned substance list as laws and attitudes changed.

WWE has not made a major public statement about that change, but MVP’s comments show how costly the old system could be for talent who continued testing positive.
