Summary

– Kiefer Sutherland attended The Lost Boys Broadway musical and met the cast backstage

– Sutherland originated the role of David in the 1987 cult vampire film

– The Broadway adaptation won four Tony Awards after earning 12 nominations

Kiefer Sutherland returned to The Lost Boys this week, but this time he watched from the audience.

Sutherland, who played vampire gang leader David in the 1987 cult classic, attended a Broadway performance of The Lost Boys on June 17. After the show, he went backstage with his longtime partner, Cindy Vela, to meet the cast and creative team.

The visit included a meeting with Tony Award winner Ali Louis Bourzgui, who plays David in the stage version. Sutherland also took photos with the show’s vampire gang, including LJ Benet, Maria Wirries, Brian Flores, Sean Grandillo, and Dean Maupin.

Sutherland is also connected to the musical as a co-producer. His visit marked his first time seeing the Broadway production in person.

Earlier this month, Sutherland made a secret appearance during the 2026 Tony Awards by introducing the musical’s performance through a voiceover.

His visit came shortly after Jason Patric, another original Lost Boys star, also attended the show. Patric played Michael Emerson in the film and later met with the Broadway cast backstage.

The Lost Boys opened at the Palace Theatre in New York City on April 26 after previews began on March 27. The production is directed by Michael Arden, with music by The Rescues and a book by David Hornsby and Chris Hoch.

The musical received 12 Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical. It won four awards, including honors for Bourzgui and featured actress Shoshana Bean.

The original Lost Boys film was directed by Joel Schumacher and released in 1987. The movie became a box office success and later grew into one of the most beloved vampire films in pop culture.

Sutherland has said the film’s lasting impact surprised him. He previously told The Hollywood Reporter that he never expected the movie to reach multiple generations of fans.

Nearly 40 years later, The Lost Boys continues to live through new audiences, sequels, comics, and now a Broadway musical. For Sutherland, the return to that world is another reminder of how far David and the film’s legacy have traveled.
