Jimmy Smits has joined the cast of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon for its fourth and final season.
AMC+ announced that the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actor will play Captain Alejandro Perkins, a former United States Navy officer and medical doctor.
Perkins has survived the apocalypse by discovering an unusual way to adapt to the dangerous world around him. The newly released teaser introduces the character during its closing moments.
The footage begins with an injured Daryl Dixon lying unconscious, then shows the rocky landscape of Spain. Walkers appear as survivors attempt to escape the approaching danger.
Daryl eventually wakes up and comes face-to-face with Perkins. The new character welcomes him home before the teaser cuts to black.
Season 4 will continue Daryl and Carol’s journey across the damaged Spanish badlands. The two survivors remain focused on finding their way home as uncertainty surrounding their future continues to grow.
Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride will return as Daryl and Carol. The final season will also feature Romain Levi, Eduardo Noriega, Óscar Jaenada, Candela Saitta, and Hugo Arbués.
David Zabel will continue serving as showrunner and executive producer. Scott M. Gimple, Greg Nicotero, Reedus, McBride, and several other longtime contributors will also executive produce the concluding season.
AMC previously announced the final season during the show’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con in 2025. The eight-episode conclusion is expected to premiere in 2027.
Smits brings another established television name into The Walking Dead universe as Daryl and Carol prepare for the final chapter of their European journey.
