Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan have taken fans behind the scenes of the hospital horror featured in Episode 3 of The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3.

The two stars reacted to footage captured by Aimee Garcia during production. Morgan and Cohan praised the work that went into the episode while joking about Garcia documenting the experience with her camera.

The hospital storyline presented the cast with a different atmosphere from the rest of the season. Cohan explained that the distinct identity of each episode helped make filming Season 3 more enjoyable.

“I think that’s a big part of what made the season really fun for us because each episode is a refresh,” Cohan said.

Morgan described the setting as a combination of the pit and a hospital ward. The footage showed the cast and background performers working through the episode’s crowded and dangerous hospital sequences.

One of the most dramatic moments involved a fire breaking out while an injured survivor depended on oxygen. Hershel was forced to perform a tracheotomy as Maggie watched her son attempt to save the young woman.

The scene also carried an emotional connection to Maggie’s past. While watching her son step forward during the emergency, Maggie briefly saw her late father, Hershel Greene.

“It’s just a moment when I see Hershel, my son, taking over and saving this girl,” Cohan explained.

Hershel’s decision to help the injured survivor showed how much he has grown while also connecting him to the grandfather whose name he carries. The moment allowed Maggie to reflect on her father as she watched her son begin to follow a similar path.

Morgan agreed that the hospital episode delivered several intense emotional moments, saying it “packed a punch.”
