The comedy escalated once Carell’s character attempted to escape backstage during the match. The moment then carried over into the live event itself, when Carell jokingly tried to run away on stage.
Punk chased after him and continued the bit by attacking a ragdoll version of Carell in front of the audience. The segment eventually ended with both men laughing and shaking hands.
The appearance immediately gained attention online because it marked Punk’s first major public appearance since the April 20 episode of WWE Raw. That absence had fueled speculation among fans that Punk could be secretly connected to Danhausen’s mystery partner storyline heading into WWE Backlash.
Recent comments during a Self-Made Session reportedly stated Punk is not currently scheduled to appear at Backlash. That has cooled speculation surrounding a possible team-up involving Danhausen.
Even so, Punk’s appearance at Night of Too Many Stars showed he remains active and visible while away from WWE television. The segment also gave fans an unexpected crossover between wrestling, comedy, and WWE gaming promotion.
