During the May 29 episode of SmackDown in Barcelona, Brie and Paige appeared in a backstage interview with Cathy Kelley before Fatal Influence interrupted them. Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henley, and Lainey Reid made it clear they had their sights set on the champions.
The story continued on the June 5 episode of SmackDown in Bologna. Fatal Influence once again crossed paths with Brie and Paige, and the situation quickly turned physical.
After Brie reminded Jacy that she had lost earlier in the night, Henley and Reid attacked from behind. The backstage fight ended with Fatal Influence standing tall.
Brie later opened up about the situation on The Nikki & Brie Show. She said she and Paige were disappointed that they did not get to wrestle in front of the live crowds in Spain or Italy.
Bella said the backstage segment in Barcelona still worked for the story, but she and Paige wanted to feel the energy from the European audience. She also said Fatal Influence would eventually get payback for the attacks.
Brie then revealed that she and Paige believed they had a match planned for the following SmackDown. That changed, leaving them frustrated again.
According to Brie, they even asked if they could go out in front of the crowd and cut a promo. She said the original idea had them appearing in the arena, but the plan was switched at the last minute.
Bella made it clear that missing out on the live crowd was the most disappointing part. She said it was hard to be in Europe and never once walk out in front of those high-energy fans.
