Overnight outage caused cooling problems during RAW in Laredo
Summary
– Power outages in Laredo left WWE RAW fans in extreme heat after arena cooling systems failed to recover.
– Officials cited pyro, production heat, and capacity crowds for the system’s inability to cool the building.
– No medical emergencies or heat-related injuries were reported despite the uncomfortable conditions.
Fans attending WWE RAW at Sames Auto Arena in Laredo, Texas, faced more than just the action inside the ring. Many in attendance reported excessive heat inside the building, with several complaints about poor air conditioning throughout the night.
Local officials explained that the problem began early that morning after the arena lost power around 2 a.m. Although electricity was restored a few hours later, the cooling system struggled to bring temperatures back down before WWE arrived for production setup.
District 5 Council Member Ruben Gutierrez stated that WWE’s pyrotechnics testing, production equipment, and the large crowd made the situation worse. Once the doors opened and more than 8,000 fans entered the venue, the air conditioning system could not keep up with the rising heat.
Officials noted that open doors, constant foot traffic, and the heat generated inside the arena made recovery difficult. By showtime, the building remained much warmer than expected, leading to frustration from fans throughout the broadcast.
The Laredo Fire Department later confirmed there were no emergency calls related to the heat. No illnesses or injuries were reported, despite the uncomfortable conditions inside the venue.
The heat was noticeable on television as well, with several WWE Superstars visibly sweating during matches and backstage segments. It quickly became one of the show’s biggest talking points.
RAW still moved forward with major storyline developments. Roman Reigns answered Jacob Fatu’s challenge for a Backlash match involving the World Heavyweight Championship. At the same time, hometown star Roxanne Perez received a strong reaction from the crowd during her tag team match with Raquel Rodriguez against Bayley and Lyra Valkyria.
