Future story-driven titles expected to remain exclusive to PS5
Summary
– Report claims Sony will no longer release major single-player PlayStation titles on PC
– Upcoming games like Wolverine could remain exclusive to PlayStation 5
– Multiplayer projects will reportedly continue launching across platforms
A major shift may be coming to Sony’s PlayStation strategy. According to a new report, the company plans to stop bringing its core single-player PlayStation titles to PC going forward.
For several years, Sony had been gradually expanding its audience by releasing previously exclusive PlayStation games on PC. Titles such as God of War, Returnal, Horizon, and the Spider-Man series eventually made the jump to the platform after launching on PlayStation consoles.
The new report suggests the approach may be coming to an end. Journalist Jason Schreier revealed that Sony no longer plans to release its biggest PlayStation 5 single-player titles on PC.
If the change takes effect, future story-driven releases will remain tied to the PlayStation platform. Upcoming projects like Wolverine and other first-party games would stay exclusive to PlayStation 5 rather than eventually appearing on PC.
The report also claims that Sony recently canceled plans to bring certain upcoming titles to PC. One example mentioned was Ghost of Yotei, along with other internally developed PlayStation projects.
Multiplayer games are an exception to the new strategy. Sony reportedly plans to continue launching online-focused titles across multiple platforms. Games such as Marathon and Marvel Tokon are expected to remain available outside the PlayStation ecosystem.
A spokesperson for PlayStation has not publicly commented on the reported shift in strategy. The lack of official confirmation has left room for speculation about the company’s reasoning.
The decision could be related to the performance of previous PC ports. Reports suggest certain PlayStation titles may not have reached the sales expectations Sony hoped for after launching on PC.
Another possible factor is brand identity. Some people connected to the company reportedly believe releasing flagship games on PC could weaken the value of PlayStation consoles and impact hardware sales.
If the strategy holds, upcoming titles like Saros and future entries in franchises such as God of War and Ratchet and Clank may remain exclusive to PlayStation consoles for the foreseeable future.
