– Jean Grey, Bolivar Trask, Team X, and Sabretooth are tied to Logan’s violent story
Marvel’s Wolverine finally has a release date, and Insomniac Games is making it clear that Logan’s PS5 debut will not pull back on the violence.
The new State of Play gameplay trailer showed a brutal single-player adventure centered on James “Logan” Howlett. The story follows Wolverine as he tracks a group of mutants captured by the Reavers, a cybernetic militia working for billionaire industrialist Bolivar Trask.
Trask believes in human superiority, which puts mutants directly in his sights. Logan is pulled back into the fight after leaving Team X three years earlier, while Jean Grey steps forward as a powerful leader among the captured mutants.
The gameplay showed Wolverine using stealth, fast claw attacks, and savage close-range combat against armed Reavers. Logan can ambush enemies, tear through weapons, and use special Techniques such as Tornado Spin and Bull Rush.
Jean Grey also plays a major role during combat. Her telekinetic powers can destroy enemies and create openings for Critical Strikes, giving Wolverine chances to deliver finishing attacks alone or alongside other characters.
Logan’s Rage system will build through attacks, parries, and kills. Rage can make him stronger or activate his Healing Factor when he takes heavy damage. Pushing that system even further can unlock a violent Rage Tier 3 mode inspired by Marvel Comics’ Black, White, and Blood style.
The trailer also showed large set pieces, including Wolverine fighting across a highway convoy on a motorcycle. He can slash tires, leap between vehicles, and throw enemies from moving trucks during the chase.
Insomniac confirmed that Marvel’s Wolverine will include a full list of accessibility options at launch. The studio said those features are built to support players with cognitive, visual, auditory, and motor disabilities.
Marvel’s Wolverine launches for PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026. Pre-orders are now available, with bonuses including the Classic Brown suit, Reflective Claws, one Technique Point, and four PlayStation avatars.
The Digital Deluxe Edition will include the full game, all pre-order bonuses, five exclusive suits, five exclusive claws, and three additional Technique Points. The suits and claws are cosmetic, while more details about customization will be shared later.
The reveal also teased more characters and enemies, including a clear look at Sabretooth. That final tease gives Logan’s story another personal threat as Insomniac builds toward one of PlayStation’s biggest 2026 releases.
