Sony patents system designed to assist or fully control gameplay in difficult moments

Summary

– Sony has patented an AI assist system for PlayStation games

– The AI could demonstrate solutions or temporarily take over gameplay

– The concept uses gameplay data from PlayStation Network and online videos

PlayStation is exploring a new AI driven feature that could step in to help players progress when they get stuck. The idea comes from recently filed patent documents by Sony that outline an in game assistance system capable of demonstrating solutions or fully taking control of gameplay.

According to the patent, the system would introduce an AI-controlled helper that can analyze a player’s actions in real-time. The AI would then compare the situation to successful gameplay examples gathered from PlayStation Network data, as well as clips shared on platforms like YouTube and Twitch.

Sony describes the feature as more advanced than traditional assist systems seen in past games. Older approaches often relied on preset demonstrations or ghost characters that replayed another player’s actions without understanding the current context.

The patent argues that these older systems fail to adapt to the exact scenario a player is facing. Because of that limitation, they are often not helpful when someone is struggling with a specific moment or unique gameplay path.

Sony’s proposed system would track player progress at a much more detailed level. This would enable the AI to understand the player’s objectives at any given moment and provide targeted assistance.

The AI could be activated at any time, either showing how to proceed or taking over controls to move the game forward. Once the challenge is cleared, control would return to the player.

For now, the concept remains theoretical. Sony has not confirmed whether or when the feature will appear in future PlayStation games. Still, the patent highlights how the company is thinking about AI-driven accessibility and player support.
