Hackers Target Black Ops 2 Players With Account-Breaking Exploit

Modded lobbies can lock PS4 and PS5 users out of multiplayer

Summary

– Black Ops 2 hackers are using modded lobbies to block players from accessing multiplayer

– Accounts can reportedly be affected before players even enter a match

– Activision and Iron Galaxy have been contacted about the dangerous exploit

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 players on PS4 and PS5 are being warned to avoid multiplayer after hackers discovered a way to damage accounts through modded lobbies. Affected users can lose access to the game’s online multiplayer mode.

The exploit reportedly gives players maximum Prestige, weapons, and camos without their permission. Once these unwanted changes are applied, the affected account may become unable to access multiplayer.

Players do not need to enter a match or earn a kill for the attack to work. Reports suggest hackers can modify an account while the player is simply waiting inside the same multiplayer lobby.

This new threat follows an earlier Black Ops exploit that gave players negative XP and locked them out of multiplayer. Activision and port developer Iron Galaxy released a patch addressing that issue, but Black Ops 2 is now facing a more dangerous wave of attacks.

Videos shared online appear to show accounts being altered immediately after encountering suspected hackers. One streamer has been accused of participating, although players should avoid sharing personal information or attempting to confront anyone connected to the attacks.

Players should avoid suspicious and modded lobbies until an official fix is released. Activision and Iron Galaxy have been contacted for comment, but no solution has been announced.
