Two of the most anticipated PS5 releases in January are launching as free-to-play titles. The first is 2XKO, which arrives on January 20 and marks Riot Games’ official console debut for its League of Legends fighting game.
2XKO is set in the Runeterra universe and features a stylized art direction along with characters familiar to fans of League of Legends and Arcane. Fighters such as Jinx and Vi headline the roster, and the game has already generated strong buzz through its early access PC version. Despite not being fully released, 2XKO earned a nomination for Best Fighting Game at The Game Awards 2025.
The PS5 launch on January 20 represents the game’s full console rollout. While the free-to-play model allows players to jump in at no cost, Riot Games is expected to support the title through cosmetic purchases and other premium content.
Just six days later, PS5 players will see the arrival of Highguard on January 26. Developed by Wildlight Entertainment, a studio formed by former Respawn developers, Highguard is described as a PvP raid shooter with hero-based mechanics.
Highguard blends elements of traditional hero shooters with unique twists, including mounted combat and objective-based raids that open access to enemy strongholds. Each character boasts distinct abilities, highlighting the importance of team composition and strategy.
