His wife’s reassurance helped him through an uncertain period

Summary

– Samoa Joe says a concussion left him believing his in-ring career was essentially over

– He recalled losing his WWE job twice despite being brought back for a different role

– An unexpected call hours after his second firing opened the door to Twisted Metal

Samoa Joe has reflected on a period when he believed his wrestling career might be finished. Speaking at Grace Family Church, he recalled how a concussion, job losses, and uncertainty eventually led to an unexpected television opportunity.

Joe said the concussion forced him away from wrestling and into WWE commentary. He enjoyed working at the desk, but he also believed his days competing in the ring were essentially over.

His employment situation then became another source of uncertainty. Joe recalled being released before WWE brought him back in what he described as a more corporate position.

That return provided only temporary relief. According to Joe, a change in the corporate structure resulted in another firing roughly two months later.

Joe remembered telling his wife he had lost his job again. Her response was calm and rooted in faith, reassuring him that they would be fine and that things would work out.

He explained that developing the same confidence had taken him time. Looking back, he came to appreciate how certain she had been even when his future seemed unclear.

About four hours after the firing, Joe received a call from a friend he had not spoken with in approximately 15 years. The friend was working on a new Peacock series and wanted him to come in for an opportunity that became Twisted Metal.

Joe eventually landed the role. When he told his wife he would be starring in a television series, she reminded him that she had already said everything would work out.

His account focused on the support that helped him through a difficult transition. What began with doubts about his wrestling future ultimately brought a new direction in television, followed by his eventual return to the ring.
