Behind-the-scenes details reveal major Maggie and Negan moments
Summary
– The cast and crew discuss Dillard’s final fate
– Negan stabbing Maggie pays off a season-long storyline
– Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan tease future possibilities
AMC has released a behind-the-scenes look at The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 finale, featuring cast and crew reactions to the episode’s biggest moments.
The video explores Dillard’s final scenes, including his transformation into a walker after Maggie cuts off his arm. Jimmi Simpson explained that Dillard’s connection with the walkers was built around his desperate need to feel connected.
Simpson said returning Dillard to the place where he felt most comfortable created a poetic ending for the character. Seth Hoffman confirmed that Dillard was always planned as a one-season character, despite Cohan and Morgan pitching ideas that could have allowed him to survive.
The finale also completed Negan and Maggie’s long-running stabbing storyline. Hoffman explained that Jeffrey Dean Morgan wanted Negan to acknowledge the fact that Maggie had stabbed him, leading to the moment when Negan returned the favor.
That act ultimately helped save Maggie and Negan, giving the violent storyline a meaningful payoff after it had been referenced throughout the season.
Lauren Cohan also discussed Maggie’s growth. She said Maggie began the season unable to imagine Negan as part of her family, but their experiences eventually changed that relationship.
The cast and crew ended the feature by reflecting on the season and teasing excitement about what could come next. AMC has not announced a fourth season, but Cohan and Morgan said the new direction has created plenty of possibilities.
