The crime thriller adds several major stars before Oklahoma production

Kiefer Sutherland has joined the increasingly stacked cast of Copperhead, an upcoming crime thriller from Oklahoma filmmaker John Swab.
Sutherland will appear alongside Miles Teller, Jason Momoa, Adria Arjona, and Tenoch Huerta. Teller was the first major cast member announced for the project earlier this summer, while details surrounding each actor’s character remain under wraps.
Copperhead follows a veteran detective who joins forces with a young federal agent after an undercover drug deal erupts into violence in West Texas. Their investigation eventually leads them into a larger conspiracy.
Chad Feehan and J. Todd Scott wrote the screenplay, with Swab directing. Black Label Media is financing and producing alongside Teller’s Lime Tree Productions and Swab’s Milk Boy.
The project is scheduled to film in Oklahoma from September 14 through November 6 after qualifying for the state’s film incentive program. Copperhead has also received approval for an Oklahoma City incentive worth up to $1 million.
The production carries an estimated budget of $39.7 million and is projected to generate approximately $13.7 million in local spending.
Copperhead continues Swab’s run of crime-focused projects after films such as Body Brokers, Little Dixie, One Day as a Lion, and King Ivory.
Sutherland remains best known to television audiences for playing Jack Bauer on 24, while his film career includes The Lost Boys, Young Guns, and A Few Good Men.
Black Bear Pictures is expected to launch international sales for Copperhead around the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
With Sutherland, Teller, Momoa, Arjona, and Huerta now attached, Copperhead has quickly developed into one of Swab’s highest-profile projects to date, ahead of production beginning in Oklahoma.
