The Walking Dead: Dead City is officially entering the final stretch of Season 3 following the August 30 airing of Episode 6, “Genesis.”
The third season premiered on July 26 and consists of eight episodes, meaning only two installments remain before the season concludes on September 13. People and AMC both confirm the eight-episode schedule.
“Genesis” marked a major departure from the usual Dead City format by exploring the franchise’s first full alternate reality storyline. The episode imagined a world in which the zombie apocalypse never happened, allowing Maggie and Negan to meet under completely different circumstances.
The episode also brought Emily Kinney back as Beth Greene for the first time in more than a decade. This alternate version of Beth survived, moved to New York, and pursued music, allowing Maggie to reunite with her sister in a life untouched by the walker outbreak.
Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan remained at the center of the episode as the alternate reality explored whether Maggie and Negan might have connected differently without their violent history. Despite the unusual setting, the story continued to emphasize personality traits that remain part of both characters, regardless of the world around them.
Season 3 now returns to its final two episodes beginning September 6 with Episode 7, “Hourglass.”
The season finale, Episode 8, is titled “Tenebrae” and is scheduled to air September 13.
Season 3 began with “Trillium” on July 26, followed by “Haven” on August 2, “Emigrants” on August 9, “Found/Lost” on August 16, and “Imperialis” on August 23. “Genesis” followed on August 30.
This is also the first season with Seth Hoffman serving as showrunner after Eli Jorné departed following the first two seasons. The ongoing story has centered on Maggie and Negan as they attempt to build a functioning community in Manhattan, while new conflicts threaten what they are trying to build.
New episodes of Dead City air Sundays at 9 PM ET on AMC and are also available through AMC+. Previous seasons remain available to stream through AMC+, with earlier seasons also available on Netflix.
With “Genesis” now complete, only “Hourglass” and “Tenebrae” remain before Dead City closes the book on Season 3.
