The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 Episode 5 is setting up a dangerous rescue mission after the shocking ending of “Found/Lost.”
Episode 4 ended with a massive sinkhole opening beneath the community and sending its food supply into New York City’s zombie-filled subway system. Maggie and Luis had only recently returned from the Trader with medical supplies, but the loss of their food now poses another immediate threat to everyone living at the hospital.
A new trailer for Episode 5 shows Maggie, Negan, Renata, and Luis working together on a plan to recover the missing supplies. The mission will require a large group to enter the subway, where hundreds of walkers are waiting below.
Maggie makes the danger clear by warning that one wrong move could get everyone killed. The preview also shows a survivor dangling above a huge group of walkers while Negan rallies people before they head underground.
Renata also appears concerned about how the mission could unfold, suggesting the rescue may not go as planned. With the community facing starvation if the food cannot be recovered, there is little choice but to take the risk.
The mission comes as Maggie continues trying to build a different kind of life in Manhattan. Episode 4 showed her opening up emotionally during her trip with Luis, including admitting that she wants to stop living as though death is the only thing she has left.
That episode also introduced another emotional complication when Maggie lost Glenn’s wedding ring during the sinkhole incident. The loss could carry additional weight as she continues questioning what moving forward should look like.
Negan has also become more involved with the community despite his complicated relationship with Maggie and Hershel. Renata now knows that he killed the Dama, giving her leverage over him, but Negan has also been helping the group without being forced into every decision.
Episode 5 will now require all of the community’s leaders to work together if they want to survive. Recovering the food means entering one of the most dangerous areas they have encountered this season, and the sheer number of walkers could turn a difficult mission into a disaster.
