The title change was intended to build interest in the division
Summary
– Michin and B-Fab won the titles on the October 23 SmackDown
– WrestleVotes says WWE wanted to generate interest in the division
– Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley held the championships for two weeks
Michin and B-Fab’s WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship victory was reportedly part of an effort to create more interest in the division.
The pair defeated Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley on the October 23 episode of SmackDown, ending the champions’ reign after just two weeks. The quick switch left some fans questioning why WWE had put the titles on Bliss and Paxley only to take them away so soon.
According to WrestleVotes, the idea behind moving the championships was to bring some activity to the women’s tag team division. During a recent Q&A, WrestleVotes said WWE’s creative team wanted to generate interest by changing titleholders when there wasn’t much happening in the division.
Michin and B-Fab’s victory came with help from their ally Jade Cargill. As Paxley prepared to hit Cemetery Drive, Cargill punched her behind the referee’s back. Michin then connected with a Styles Clash to secure the pinfall and the championships.
The loss ended Bliss and Paxley’s reign without a successful title defense. They had won the belts from Fatal Influence on the October 9 episode of SmackDown.
The result also marked the first WWE championship win for both Michin and B-Fab. Whether the title change creates the interest WWE reportedly wants will depend on what happens next in the division.
