– Nightingale also withdrew from the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament
– AEW must now adjust the tournament bracket and decide how to crown a new TBS Champion
Willow Nightingale is stepping away from AEW competition after revealing a shoulder injury.
During the May 20 episode of AEW Dynamite and Collision, Nightingale announced that she is not medically cleared to compete. As a result, she relinquished the AEW TBS Championship.
The injury also forced Nightingale out of the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. She had been scheduled to face Alex Windsor in the opening round at AEW Double or Nothing.
The tournament field had already been announced, featuring names such as Athena, Mina Shirakawa, Sareee, Hazuki, Skye Blue, Persephone, and Windsor. AEW will now need to adjust the bracket following Nightingale’s withdrawal.
The company must also decide how to crown a new TBS Champion. As of now, AEW has not officially announced the next step for the vacant title.
Nightingale told fans she does not know how long she will be out, but she made it clear she plans to return. She also said that when she comes back, she intends to get right back to the top of the division.
The injury ends Nightingale’s latest run as one of AEW’s central women’s division stars. Her absence creates a major shakeup just days before Double or Nothing.
