The Walking Dead is getting a new video game with a retro action twist.
Odaclick Game Studio and Trailmark Games announced The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival with a first trailer. The game is a single-player pixel-style beat ’em up based on AMC’s zombie franchise.
The trailer showed Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, and Michonne as playable characters. Each one uses weapons tied closely to their television roles.
Rick uses his revolver, Daryl fights with knives and a crossbow, and Michonne cuts through enemies with her katana. The footage showed all three battling walkers and human enemies.
The game will retell the All Out War storyline, one of the bloodiest conflicts from The Walking Dead universe. That arc focuses on Rick’s group going to war with Negan and the Saviors.
Players will fight through locations familiar to fans of the show, including Alexandria, Hilltop, and the Sanctuary. The game will also include environmental hazards, set pieces, and story-driven moments.
Negan and Simon are set to appear as multi-phase boss battles. Other bosses include Winslow and the Well Walker, giving the game a mix of human and walker threats.
The developers said players will be able to learn each character’s moves across multiple difficulty settings. No multiplayer mode has been announced at this time.
A release date has not been confirmed yet. The game is planned for PC through Steam, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
A demo is already available on Steam for PC players who want an early look.
The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival gives the franchise a different kind of adaptation. Instead of another survival drama, this game turns All Out War into a side-scrolling fight for survival.
