Randy Orton made sure Cody Rhodes never got the match he expected on the August 14 episode of WWE SmackDown from Boston.
Rhodes had been scheduled to face Sami Zayn after asking SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis for the match. Zayn entered despite an injury, with a victory set to earn him a future number-one contender opportunity.
The match never had a chance to begin after Orton properly attacked Rhodes from behind. Orton quickly took control and delivered a draping DDT before continuing his assault around ringside.
The fight soon spilled into the TD Garden crowd as Rhodes began firing back. Both men exchanged attacks near the barricades, and a garbage can was also used during the chaotic scene.
