Major sequels, horror revivals, and PlayStation exclusives headline the console’s future
Summary
– PlayStation 5 owners have several major games to watch across 2026 and beyond
– Upcoming titles include Marvel’s Wolverine, Silent Hill: Townfall, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, and God of War Laufey
– The lineup mixes horror, action, RPGs, classic revivals, and rare PlayStation exclusives
The PlayStation 5 still has plenty of major releases ahead, even after an already strong 2026.
While Grand Theft Auto 6 remains the obvious giant on the horizon, several other titles are giving PS5 owners a reason to stay excited. The upcoming slate includes superhero action, horror returns, classic franchise revivals, RPG remakes, and new chapters in some of gaming’s biggest series.
One of the first major releases to watch is Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, which is set for August 27, 2026. Instead of continuing directly with Amicia and Hugo, this entry shifts focus to Sophia, the seafaring smuggler from A Plague Tale: Requiem.
The game takes place 15 years before Requiem and moves the series in a more action-focused direction. That makes it an interesting change for fans who followed the earlier stealth-driven survival stories.
Marvel’s Wolverine is another major PS5 title, arriving on September 15, 2026. Developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the game follows Logan after he has stepped away from his superhero life.
That peace does not last. A mutant kidnapping crisis pulls Wolverine back into action, giving Insomniac another chance to bring a major Marvel hero into the gaming spotlight.
Silent Hill: Townfall is also scheduled for September 24, 2026. The game continues Konami’s renewed push for the horror franchise and takes the fear to Scotland in 1996.
Townfall uses a first-person perspective and leans into medical horror, giving Silent Hill fans a different kind of nightmare while still holding onto the series’ psychological edge.
Control Resonant arrives on the same date and brings players back into Remedy’s strange world of the Federal Bureau of Control. This time, the story follows Dylan Faden as Manhattan faces a deadly paranormal threat.
Dylan must learn to control his unusual powers while confronting a sentient black mist and dangerous entities. For fans of the first Control, this sequel looks like another strange trip into supernatural chaos.
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is set for October 15, 2026, and brings the series back to 2D side-scrolling action. The game follows Rosa, a new member of the Belmont family, as she takes on Dracula’s castle.
The project is especially notable because Evil Empire and Motion Twin are involved. After their work on Dead Cells and its Return to Castlevania expansion, they seem like a strong fit to revive the franchise’s classic energy.
Final Fantasy Resonance follows on October 22, 2026. The game reimagines Final Fantasy Brave Exvius in Square Enix’s HD-2D style.
The story follows Rain and his allies as they protect elemental crystals from evil forces. Since Brave Exvius is no longer available on mobile, Resonance gives that story a new chance to reach players.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is planned for February 12, 2027. Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog are rebuilding Lara Croft’s original 1996 adventure for modern consoles.
The game will take players through locations such as Peru and Egypt with a full Unreal Engine 5 remake. It should appeal to longtime Tomb Raider fans and players who never experienced Lara’s first journey.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is expected in spring 2027. The game will bring Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy closer to its conclusion after years of retelling and reshaping the original story.
Cloud and his allies will face the threat of Meteor as the planet unleashes powerful bioweapons. After Remake and Rebirth, Revelation is positioned as one of the biggest RPG events on the PS5 calendar.
Until Dawn 2 is also planned for 2027. Firesprite takes over the series with a new cast trapped on an abandoned island while filming a paranormal show.
Like the original, the sequel will center on choices, survival, and keeping characters alive through one terrifying night. For fans of cinematic horror games, this could be one of 2027’s biggest releases.
God of War Laufey does not have a release date yet, but it may be one of the most intriguing PlayStation exclusives ahead. Instead of following Kratos, the game focuses on Laufey, also known as Faye.
The story follows her through the afterlife during the events of God of War and God of War Ragnarök. With Faye trying to protect Kratos and Atreus from beyond death, the game could open a completely new emotional side of the franchise.
The PS5 lineup beyond 2026 looks loaded with variety. Whether players want horror, action, superheroes, classic revivals, or massive RPG finales, Sony’s console still has several major titles waiting to define its next chapter.
