– He said The Righteous fit perfectly with the strange energy of the Broken Universe
Matt Hardy still believes deeply in the Broken Universe, and he is making a huge promise about what could be next for The Hardys in TNA Wrestling.
During an interview with Soundsphere Magazine, Hardy was asked about fans who believe dark or supernatural wrestling characters no longer work. Hardy disagreed, saying wrestling has always been about creating stories and characters that connect with people.
“I mean, I obviously disagree because at the end of the day, wrestling is entertainment. We are telling a story. We want to create compelling characters. That’s what we do. And it totally works for me. I mean, wrestling is something we are in control of. A lot of people are critical of it, but once again, wrestling is not your typical sports. We are not out here having a legitimate contest in a football game, you know, or soccer or basketball or baseball, whatever it may be.”
Hardy said the most successful wrestlers are the ones who build characters that fans care about. He pointed to Broken Matt Hardy and Brother Nero as proof that a strong character shift can give a career new energy.
“You know, pro wrestling is entertainment. And the pro wrestlers who are the most successful will have created characters that people actually care about, they’re emotionally invested in. And if you can connect to something that people can connect to, then that is where you become successful. And you know, us becoming Broken Matt and Brother Nero totally rejuvenated our career, you know, and it gave us it strengthened our run as we went forward and gave us other characters that we could play with and go back to.”
Hardy then turned his attention to The Righteous. He praised the team and said their strange, cult-like presentation makes them a natural fit for The Broken Hardys.
“And honestly, I’m going to tell you the truth, we’re at the point with The Righteous, who we love, I think are very talented, great performers as well. And they fit well with The Broken Hardys because if you’re watching them, they almost seem like guys you know that you’re on acid trip. They’re very cultish. They have these qualities that seem magical or supernatural to a degree.”
Hardy did not stop at calling the match a strong fit. He said Broken Hardys vs. The Righteous could become the greatest cinematic match in pro wrestling history.
“And I think when it’s all said and done, the greatest cinematic match that has ever happened in pro wrestling is going to be the Broken Hardys versus The Righteous. And when it’s all said and done, I think this match is going to be a gateway that’s going to help us reinvent our characters and become something the most entertaining version of the Hardys that you ever have seen.”
That is a major claim from someone already connected to some of wrestling’s most memorable cinematic moments. Hardy appears to see this feud as more than another rivalry for The Hardys.
He believes The Righteous can help unlock a new version of Broken Matt, Brother Nero, and possibly Willow. For Hardy, the match could be a fresh beginning instead of a nostalgia act.
The Hardys have spent decades adapting to the business, and Matt sounds confident that this next chapter can take them somewhere new. If his prediction comes true, TNA could have one of the most talked-about cinematic matches in years.
