Summary
– Liv Morgan defended the Women’s World Championship against Iyo Sky in SummerSlam’s opening match
– Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez attempted to interfere before Sky took them out with a dive
– Morgan delivered two finishers and pinned Sky cleanly to retain her championship
Liv Morgan opened WWE SummerSlam 2026 with a successful Women’s World Championship defense against Iyo Sky.
The rivalry began during the Queen of the Ring tournament. Morgan entered despite already holding the Women’s World Championship because she hoped to challenge for the WWE Women’s Championship and become a double world champion.
Those plans ended when Morgan faced Sky in the tournament finals at Night of Champions. After earning the right to select her SummerSlam opponent, Sky chose to challenge Morgan rather than pursue the championship on SmackDown.
Their rivalry continued through a series of confrontations on RAW before they finally met in the opening match of SummerSlam’s Saturday show.
Morgan and Sky exchanged high-impact moves and several near falls as the action repeatedly spilled outside the ring.
Judgment Day members Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez eventually arrived to support Morgan. Their presence created another obstacle for Sky, but the challenger neutralized both women with a dive to the floor.
Sky continued fighting after Morgan connected with her first finishing move. The champion eventually delivered a second finisher and secured a clean three-count to retain the Women’s World Championship.
Morgan’s victory ended Sky’s championship challenge and allowed Liv to begin SummerSlam 2026 with another successful title defense.
