According to Axios, Glenn Jacobs is among the Tennessee Republicans being discussed as a possible interim replacement for U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn if she wins the state’s governor’s race.
Blackburn has said she plans to remain in the Senate until she is sworn in as governor if elected. A vacancy would then allow her to appoint a temporary successor under Tennessee law.
Jacobs recently completed eight years as mayor of Knox County after reaching the county’s two-term limit. He was first elected in 2018 and served two consecutive four-year terms before leaving office in September 2026.
The former WWE Champion has not committed to pursuing another elected position. Jacobs previously said any decision about his political future would need to be right for his family.
He also questioned whether his experience leading Knox County provided the skills required to represent all 95 counties in Tennessee. Jacobs ultimately stayed out of the governor’s race and endorsed Blackburn.
Jacobs is not the only person being mentioned in connection with a possible Senate vacancy. Axios also identified U.S. Representatives Tim Burchett and Chuck Fleischmann as potential candidates.
President Donald Trump publicly praised Jacobs in May and said the former wrestler had a significant political future in Tennessee.
Blackburn’s campaign has denied that an official shortlist is being assembled. Her team said its current focus remains on the November election and that discussions about a replacement would happen only at the appropriate time.
If Blackburn becomes governor and the Senate seat becomes vacant, the appointed senator would serve until the 2028 statewide election. Tennessee voters would hold another election in 2030 for the seat’s next full six-year term.
Jacobs is currently only a reported possibility for the appointment. His future will depend on the governor’s race, the creation of an actual Senate vacancy, and the eventual appointment decision.
