Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Returns Across WWE

RAW and SmackDown join NXT

Summary

– The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic is returning in 2026

– Teams from NXT, RAW, and SmackDown will compete

– WWE will reveal the tournament field later this week

The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic is officially returning, and WWE is expanding the tournament beyond NXT.

During the September 15 episode of WWE NXT, General Manager Robert Stone announced that teams from NXT, Monday Night RAW, and Friday Night SmackDown will compete in this year’s tournament.

Stone did not reveal the bracket, but confirmed that WWE will announce the full field later this week. The expanded format could create cross-brand matchups and unexpected team combinations.

WWE created the tournament in 2015 to honor WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes following his death. Finn Bálor and Samoa Joe won the inaugural tournament by defeating Baron Corbin and Rhyno in the finals at NXT TakeOver: Respect.

The Dusty Classic has become one of NXT’s signature traditions, featuring established tag teams and temporary pairings created specifically for the competition.

Dusty also played a major role behind the scenes during NXT’s early years, helping develop wrestlers improve their characters and promos.

With RAW and SmackDown talent now entering the tournament, this year’s competition could deliver several unexpected matchups. WWE will reveal the complete lineup later this week.
