GUNTHER attacked SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis after Aldis announced a major tag team match for Saturday Night’s Main Event. GUNTHER and Sami Zayn will face Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk and Cody Rhodes at Madison Square Garden on July 18.
The Ring General became furious after Aldis refused to grant him the singles championship opportunity he wanted. GUNTHER placed Aldis in a chokehold and left him motionless as WWE officials attempted to intervene.
Cody entered moments later, but the television broadcast ended before viewers saw his response. WWE’s additional footage showed GUNTHER circling the ring before heading toward the backstage area.
Cody grabbed a microphone and ordered GUNTHER to return for an immediate fight. Security held Cody back as he demanded that officials release GUNTHER and ring the bell.
