AMC Addresses Daryl Dixon’s Future

Network says talks are active for Norman Reedus in the TWD universe

Summary

– AMC is in active talks with Norman Reedus about Daryl Dixon’s future in The Walking Dead universe

– Daryl Dixon season 4 is still planned as the final season of the spinoff

– AMC president Dan McDermott said the franchise will continue with familiar and new characters

Norman Reedus may not be finished with The Walking Dead after Daryl Dixon season 4.

Reedus became one of the franchise’s biggest names through his long run as Daryl Dixon on the original series. He later carried his own spinoff, which expanded the character’s journey and brought Melissa McBride back as Carol Peletier in season 2.

Daryl Dixon season 4 is expected to premiere later in 2026 and has been promoted as the final chapter of that spinoff. Still, AMC appears open to keeping Reedus connected to the franchise beyond that point.

AMC Chief Content Officer and AMC Studios President Dan McDermott said the company is in active discussions with Reedus about what could come next. He noted that AMC values Reedus and the Daryl Dixon character, while also saying the network is looking at how Daryl could fit into the next stage of The Walking Dead universe.

McDermott also made it clear that The Walking Dead brand is not leaving AMC platforms. The larger question is which stories continue, how many shows remain active, and whether future projects focus on returning favorites or new characters.

Right now, AMC has Daryl Dixon season 4 and Dead City season 3 lined up. Dead City returns on July 26 with Maggie Rhee and Negan continuing their story in Manhattan.

Daryl Dixon season 4 does not yet have a specific premiere date, but the season was filmed in Spain. Reedus recently reflected on the end of filming in a social media post, suggesting the moment felt especially meaningful.

Even with the spinoff ending, McDermott’s comments leave the door open for Daryl to remain part of the franchise. That could mean another lead role, a crossover, or a smaller appearance tied to the next Walking Dead story.
