PlayStation Plus subscribers at the Extra and Premium tiers will soon gain access to one of the most popular titles previously associated with Xbox Game Pass. Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2 will become available as a free download for eligible PS5 users beginning March 17.
The game normally costs $40 on the PlayStation Store. Those with PS Plus Extra or PS Plus Premium will be able to download and play the title without additional cost. Subscribers at the PS Plus Essential tier will not receive access to the game through the service.
Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2 quickly became a major success following its release in 2024. The third-person shooter blends heavy gunplay with close-quarters combat and serves as the sequel to Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, released in 2011.
The original game gained a cult following but remained somewhat under the radar. The sequel expanded the audience significantly and sold more than 4.5 million copies worldwide.
Critical reception also improved compared to the original title. Review scores landed in the low eighties on aggregate review sites, while the game also earned nominations for Best Multiplayer and Best Action Game during that year’s awards season.
Players have responded even more positively than critics. User scores across multiple platforms remain strong, and the PlayStation Store rating is above 4 out of 5 stars based on tens of thousands of reviews.
PS5 players who download the game through PlayStation Plus can expect a campaign lasting roughly ten to fifteen hours. Those who aim to complete everything available in the game could spend closer to sixty or seventy hours exploring all of its content.
