Kiefer Sutherland is preparing to return to Western territory with his next feature film, Hour of Reckoning, which is set to begin production in Oklahoma in February 2026.
The Western thriller will film in the state from February 23 through March 20, with Chuck Hustmyre credited as the story writer and Vaughn Stein directing. Sutherland is currently the only cast member confirmed for the project.
The film centers on a retired law enforcement officer who returns to his dying hometown to investigate the mysterious death of his brother. What begins as a personal search for answers quickly escalates when he uncovers a violent criminal network built on fear, corruption, and trafficking. His pursuit of the truth sparks a dangerous confrontation between one man’s moral code and an entire town controlled by brutality.
Hour of Reckoning continues Sutherland’s long association with Western and frontier-style storytelling. His past work in the genre includes Young Guns, Young Guns II, The Cowboy Way, and Forsaken. The new project adopts a darker tone, blending Western themes with elements of crime and psychological tension.
Sutherland has remained active across film and television in recent years. He recently appeared in the holiday comedy Tinsel Town and has featured in films such as Juror #2, Stone Cold Fox, and They Cloned Tyrone. On television, he starred in the Paramount+ thriller Rabbit Hole and portrayed Franklin D. Roosevelt in Showtime’s anthology series The First Lady.
Director Vaughn Stein brings experience from thrillers including Terminal, Inheritance, Every Breath You Take, and Cellar Door. Hour of Reckoning marks his first entry into the Western genre, adding another layer of curiosity around the project’s final tone and execution.
Oklahoma continues to attract major productions, with recent projects filmed in the state including Killers of the Flower Moon, Tulsa King, Logan, Reagan, and American Gods. Hour Of Reckoning now joins that growing list as it gears up for a late-winter shoot.
