A Swanton 450 ends Nemeth’s reign in Tampa
Summary
– Leon Slater defeated Nic Nemeth to win the TNA World Championship
– The Bound For Glory main event ended with Slater’s Swanton 450
– Slater earned the opportunity by relinquishing the X-Division Championship
Leon Slater’s decision to give up the X-Division Championship paid off at Bound For Glory. He defeated Nic Nemeth in the October 11 main event to capture the TNA World Championship at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida.
Nemeth made the challenger work for the finish. The champion reached beyond his usual offense, using a Skull Crushing Finale and a Rough Ryder, but neither kept Slater down. Slater also survived the Danger Zone before finding the opening he needed.
The decisive Swanton 450 brought Nemeth’s title defense to an end and put the championship in Slater’s hands.
Slater had secured this match through Option C, surrendering his X-Division title in exchange for a world championship opportunity. That left him heading into TNA’s biggest event with the chance to move from one division to the promotion’s top prize.
He leaves Tampa having made that gamble count.
