Bella starts rehab as doctors monitor whether her broken scapula is healing properly
Summary
– Brie Bella has officially started physical therapy for her broken scapula
– Doctors will monitor her recovery with regular X-rays and another CT scan
– Bella is currently healing without surgery and expects a three to six month recovery
Brie Bella has officially started physical therapy as she continues recovering from the broken scapula she suffered at SummerSlam. Speaking on the August 20 edition of The Nikki & Brie Show, Bella said getting her injured arm out of the sling and beginning to move it has already been difficult.
Bella explained that one concern is preventing the shoulder from becoming too stiff while the fracture heals. Nikki Bella raised the possibility of a frozen shoulder, and Brie said she is following the exercises her physical therapist provided to keep the area moving safely.
The next stage of her recovery will involve regular imaging to track how the injury is healing. Bella said doctors were trying to schedule her first follow-up X-ray for this week or next, with additional X-rays expected every two weeks.
A more important evaluation is scheduled in roughly five weeks, when Bella expects to undergo another CT scan. That test should show whether the broken areas of her scapula are properly fusing, and Bella admitted she does not yet know what doctors would recommend if the bones are not healing as expected.
Nikki stressed that the early weeks of recovery are especially important because Brie did not undergo surgery. She encouraged her sister to rest, avoid unnecessary risks, and perform only movements approved by her physical therapist while the fracture continues to heal naturally.
Brie admitted that slowing down has been one of the more difficult parts of the process. Nikki compared the situation to her own injury recoveries and said that following medical instructions, resting, and taking care of nutrition and hydration helped her return stronger.
Bella initially feared she might need emergency surgery after X-rays taken following SummerSlam showed multiple breaks in her scapula. A later CT scan provided better news, with doctors determining that surgery was not necessary and estimating a recovery period of approximately three to six months.
Physical therapy is now underway, but Bella’s next major milestone will come when doctors determine whether the bones are successfully fusing. Until then, she plans to continue her exercises while giving the injury as much time as possible to heal.
