MFTs capture championship gold in a three-way match on WWE SmackDown.
Summary
– Tama Tonga and Talla Tonga won the WWE Tag Team Championship on SmackDown
– The MFTs defeated Damian Priest, R-Truth, and the War Raiders in a three-way match
– The victory gives Talla his first WWE title and Tama his third tag team championship
Tama Tonga and Talla Tonga are the new WWE Tag Team Champions after a major title change on the August 14 episode of SmackDown from TD Garden in Boston.
The MFTs captured the championships in a three-way match against defending champions Damian Priest, R-Truth, and the War Raiders. Tama and Talla had already targeted both teams following a recent championship match, and they backed up those attacks by leaving Boston with the titles.
The victory marks Talla Tonga’s first championship in WWE. Tama Tonga is now a three-time WWE Tag Team Champion after previously holding tag team gold with Jacob Fatu in 2024 and Solo Sikoa in 2025.
Their championship win comes two weeks after Haku appeared on WWE television alongside his sons during a vignette. His return added another family connection to the MFTs as the group continued gaining momentum on SmackDown.
Priest and R-Truth had held the championships since defeating the MFTs in March before WrestleMania 41. Their reign officially ended when Tama and Talla secured the victory in Boston.
The result gives SmackDown’s tag team division a new direction with the MFTs now holding the gold. Tama Tonga and Taka Tonga have moved to the top of the division, strengthening the group’s position on Friday nights.
